Track & Field takes 2nd & 4th in CPIC championship meet

The track and field teams came home with plenty of hardware from the CPIC championship meet on Wednesday. The boys finished second in the team standings, led by four-time champion Keegan Jones, while Hailey Tew won three events and was fourth in another to propel the girls to fourth.

Jones won the 200 and the 400, and joined Gabe Lewis, Nick Coggins, and Nathan Wright on the winning 4x200 relay, and Lewis, Coggins, and Crisean Williams on the first-place 4x100 relay. The Saints, who scored at least one point in every event, also received a winning performance from King Williams in the high jump.

CJ Dail was second in the 100 and fourth in the 200; Michael Spong was second in the long jump, third in the 300 hurdles, fourth in the triple jump, and fifth in the 100 hurdles; Crisean Williams was third in the 100 and fifth in the 200; King Williams was fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles; Coggins was fifth in the 100; Liam Lewis was fifth in the 3,200 and sixth in the 1,600; Wright was sixth in the long jump; Nolan Howard was sixth in the 3,200 and eighth in the 1,600; Anthony Washington was sixth in the shot put and seventh in the discus; Ryan Edwards was seventh in the 400 and eighth in the 800; Myles Brown was seventh in the 800; Anthony Collins was eight in the shot put; and Michael Dunn was eighth in the 400.

The combination of Gabe Lewis, Edwards, Brown, and Wright was third in the 4x800 relay; and Gabe Lewis, Edwards, Wright, and Dunn were fourth in the 4x400 relay.

For the girls, Tew was dominant in the sprints, comfortably winning the 100, 200, and 400. Running the 300 hurdles for only the second time all season, she placed fourth, accounting for 35 points total. Janai King was third in the shot put and sixth in the discus, and Vanessa Cabello was fifth in the 100, seventh in the high jump, and eighth in the 100 hurdles.

The Saints will conclude their season on May 15th & 16th in the NCISAA Division 2 state championships at Ravenscroft in Raleigh.
